Fesoterodine tops tolterodine

Fesoterodine (Toviaz) is superior to tolterodine (Detrusitol ER) in reducing urge episodes and increasing bladder capacity in people with overactive bladder, according to data announced by manufacturer Pfizer at the 25th European Association of Urology Annual Congress in Barcelona.

The 12-week Fesoterodine Assessment and Comparison versus Tolterodine (FACT) study also demonstrated superior patient-reported outcomes with fesoterodine, including symptom bother and health-related quality of life.

Fesoterodine is a prodrug of 5-hydroxymethyl tolterodine, an active metabolite of tolterodine.
