MRI does not reduce breast cancer operations
Published on 02/23/10Adding magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to the usual preoperative assessment of women with breast cancer does not reduce the rate of repeat operations (Health Technology Assessment 2010;14:1–182).
In 1623 women with primary breast cancer scheduled for wide local excision, re-operation rates were 19.3 per cent after clinical examination, imaging and biopsy and 18.8 per cent after adding MRI.
