Talk to teenagers about contraception

Published on 01/12/10

A new toolkit to help health professionals talk to teenagers about contraception is being distributed to all GPs and sexual health services.

The Engaging Teenagers about Contraception toolkit, developed by sexual health experts and launched at the Faculty of Sexual and Reproductive Healthcare Current Choices conference, draws on qualitative and quantitative research with teenagers, revealing lack of awareness about options for contraception and fear of talking to their GP. Sponsored by Bayer Schering Pharma, the toolkit includes advice on active listening, showing examples of contraceptives and a list of available resources.
