MDV3100 increases prostate cancer survival after docetaxel
Published on 02/21/12MDV3100, the novel oral androgen-receptor signalling inhibitor developed by Astellas and Medivation, increased overall survival by 4.8 months (18.4 vs 13.6 months) in men with advanced prostate cancer after failure of docetaxel-based chemotherapy, the AFFIRM trial has shown.
AFFIRM is a multinational phase III trial involving 1199 men with a median age at baseline of 69 years. This scheduled interim analysis, presented at the Genitourinary Cancers Symposium in San Francisco, showed that MDV3100 was superior to placebo on all secondary endpoints, including median radiographic progression-free survival (8.3 vs 2.9 months with placebo). Adverse events were similar to placebo.
